The Bridge Direct Semi Explains Wave 2

When The Bridge Direct released a recent announcement on wave two of The Hobbit action figures, many not only spotted that the wave had been pushed back, but also saw it was missing many figures we were recently shown at toy fairs. I contacted them to see if they could shed some light on the next wave of figures. Below is my question and their response.

WinO: Recently you announced your second wave of figures, that will be releasing in October. Previously though, you had shown some figures at a few toy fairs that were not in your recent announcement. I was wondering if we were still going to see those figures in this next wave or if they were pushed back to be released at a later date.

The Bridge Direct: Due to the ever changing retail we pushed back our release date on our Wave 2 and also added new characters and assortments. Wave 2 will have new packaging to coincide with the release of The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug.

This will be available on shelf at retail October 15, 2013.

Thank you for supporting our line, we truly appreciate our fans!

Thank you,
Customer Service

Even though this doesn't fully confirm it, they did say they "added new characters and assortments", which would mean they kept the ones they previously had shown. Hopefully we get pictures of the full lineup soon, so we can go back to waiting as unpatiently as possible.

  1. So the release date got pushed back from "summer" to October and we are getting a re-release of Legolas in the 6" line? re-carded? BD seems to be doing the bare minimum with their license. I still feel like the lack of retailers that actually carry these is killing their popularity. Kids don't even know they are out there.

    1. I am hoping we see the 6" Yazneg figure that was a Europe exclusive last year in the U.S. It was shown at SDCC (with the wave 1 card back)...but I'm not holding my breathe...similar to the 3 3/4" Smaug figure. There was also supposed to be a multipack of all the dwarves (maybe the whole fellowship..3 3/4, I forget exactly but it had been mentioned by Bridge Direct in the past). Like Smaug I didn't see anything about that mentioned at SDCC either...

  4. Oh man i wanted it to be Smaug in 3.75 scale or something, But not to worry as i would like to ask you LOTR for Life (cool name btw) is has BD announced or said to you or anybody what's happening to Smaug in 3.75 scale? or maybe gave details to you? Well thanks again LOTR for Life and thanks for the update and i did see something about the Azog SDCC exclusive and was quite disappointed even though it sounds cool. Thanks mate and have you heard anything from BD? since it sounds like you work for them which is cool!

  5. Hey Thorin, if you recall in an interview with the owner of BD during an interview
    http://www.preternia.com/2013/02/11/toy-fair-2013-bridge-direct-the-hobbit/

He mentioned "he seemed very keen on the idea of doing a Smaug for the 3 3/4″ line. The line of thinking was that he would probably be a cheated scale but very large. They considered the Fel Beast from the Toy Biz line a good starting point when considering size."

Lets wait and see man! I wouldn't mind if NECA did a Smaug as they did a very decent job on Balrog which is scaled to the Toybiz figures.

  6. Hey man sorry for getting back late and i've changed my profile name now so don't worry i'm definitely Thorin and also i do seem to recall many recent indicated comments and replies on BD's FB page. That would be great if NECA could do him as well as they have had many licenses lately that they have so much of a good job but also commonly known to be constantly churn out great and random products from movies of all diversities and all sorts. Also there has been recent indication on this site about there being a LOTR Trilogy-based line to fit in for Wave 4 and i just want to know will there be King Thror and Thrain ii in the 3.75 scale down the line please? Thanks again for replying and hope to hear soon mate!
